This permit allows students to work up to 30 hours per week, with no restrictions if the work is related to their degree, such as internships or thesis projects. Doctoral students or researchers should apply for a specific residence permit for scientific research, which can be granted for up to two years.

Application Process for Student Residence Permit

Students should start the residence permit application process immediately after being admitted to a Finnish university. Detailed requirements and procedures are available on the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri) website, where students can apply through the Enter Finland online service. As part of the process, a personal visit to a Finnish embassy or consulate is mandatory. Upon arrival in Finland, students must register with the DVV (Digital and Population Data Services Agency) to receive a Finnish personal identity code and register their address.

Post-Study Residence Permit and Permanent Residency
