Canadian universities and colleges provide a wide range of scholarships to meritorious international students to help them fund their studies. Apart from this, many scholarships, grants and bursaries are also offered by the Canadian government, public and private establishments. Before you apply to any of these scholarships, do check the eligibility and criteria, along with the closing date.

What is the criteria for applying to scholarships to study in Canada for Indian students?

The primary criterion for most scholarships is a good academic score, however, it also depends on factors such as your chosen destination, subject and level. In some scholarships, factors like extracurricular activities, and volunteering can also be used to advantage.

  You may need to declare scores of an English language proficiency test such as IELTS, which is commonly accepted by all Canadian institutions.

What amount of money is available through scholarships?

The amount of money available and type of award varies between various institutions. Getting a scholarship is competitive and so, you must apply well ahead in time. We recommend you start with the procedure about 8-12 months before the preferred intake begins.

  • It provide $10,000 for transportation, living and other expenses in Canada for 5-6 months
3. Ontario Graduate Scholarship Program
  • For graduate students in a wide variety of disciplines
  • The scholarship amount is $5,000 per session award to be received by you
  • Each award is tenable for one year (two to three academic sessions). The value and duration are determined by the awarding graduate unit and detailed of which will be mentioned in your offer letter

Non-Government Scholarships to study in Germany

Heinrich Böll Scholarships for International Students
Every year the Heinrich Böll Foundation announces around 1,200 scholarships for Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. programs in Germany. These scholarships are given to international students as per the guidelines issued by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), and the Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt).
Eligibility: Both German and international students planning to study Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. programs in Germany are eligible for Heinrich Böll Scholarships. The applications for this scholarship are opened twice a year (March and September).
Scholarship Duration and Amount: Eligible student receives € 750 per month for Masters Program and € 1000 per month for the Doctoral program.
Humboldt Research Fellowships for Postdoctoral Researchers These fellowships are offered by the Alexander Von Humboldt Foundation to research scholars who have completed their Doctoral studies and are planning to do a postdoctoral in Germany.
Eligibility: The fellowship is open to researchers and students from all nationalities for the Postdoctoral program. Around 400 – 500 research fellowships are granted every year.
Scholarship Duration and Amount: The fellowship worth € 2,650 per month is granted for duration of 6 – 24 months. This includes liabilities for monthly expenses, transportation, and health insurance.

Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Scholarships
KAS scholarships are awarded to international scholars aspiring to study postgraduate and Ph.D. programs. The scholarships are available in all disciplines. Awardees can pursue their courses at universities of applied science and technical colleges.
Eligibility: Students of all nationalities having excellent academic achievement are eligible for these scholarships. The upper age limit for applicants is 30 years.
Scholarship Duration and Amount: Postgraduate students receive a monthly stipend of € 850 for 2 years.
Bayer Foundation Scholarships
Bayer Foundation supports students aspiring to study in Germany with five fellowship programs in biology, medical science, agricultural science, non-academic professions, and chemistry.
Eligibility: Students of all nationalities having outstanding academic achievement are eligible for these scholarships.
Scholarship Duration and Amount: Approximately € 6400 per year up to 2 years after graduation.
Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum (DKFZ)-German Cancer Research Centre PhD scholarship
The German Cancer Research Centre (DFKZ) offers an opportunity to conduct projects for more than 500 students in biomedical research.
Eligibility: MSc or equivalent degree with the minimum required IELTS/TOEFL/PTE test scores.
Scholarship Duration and Amount: Full funding of Ph.D. program for 3 years.
Einstein International Postdoctoral Fellowship
This program allows international students to work with high-achieving young researchers in Berlin. It offers them to live in the city of Berlin and granted for a period of up to five years during the active life of the junior research group. During this period, the postdoctoral scholars will be entitled “Einstein International Postdoctoral Fellows”.
Eligibility: Ph.D. degree
Scholarship Duration and Amount: Eligible student receives stipend up to € 20,000 per year to cover material resources.
Marie Skolodowska-curie actions
Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) offers four types of scholarships (research networks, individual fellowships, research and innovation staff exchanges, COFUND programs) for researchers from different academic disciplines to promote research, innovation and to advance partnerships among the leading institutions all over the world.
Eligibility: Students of all nationalities are eligible
Scholarship Duration and Amount: Eligible student receives € 3000 per month plus € 600 per month as transport allowance. Deutschland Stipendium

The Deutschland Stipendium provides monetary and non-material provision to students from across the globe. This excellent scholarship offers the best of both worlds to talented international students. Half of the Deutschland Stipendium is funded by the German government and the other half are contributed by the private organization and individuals.

Scholarship Amount and Duration: Students receive a scholarship worth € 150 per month, provided by the German government, private organizations or public-private partnership firms. The most proficient student receives an amount of € 300 per month under this scholarship program. Funding is generally granted for at least two semesters, later it can be extended until the completion of studies.

Jacobs University Scholarships

Jacobs University offers several merit-based scholarships for international students to study in Germany. Theses scholarships are highly competitive and require a focused application and noteworthy statement of purpose. Scholarship Duration and Amount:This scholarship includes annual tuition of € 20,000 along with € 6,000 for room and board expenses (covering the 9-month academic year).

AICES scholarships-RWTH Aachen University
The Aachen Institute for Advanced Study in Computational Engineering Science (AICES) offers Ph.D. scholarships to outstanding students interested in interdisciplinary research in computational engineering science.

UK

Scholarships in the UK are offered to international students based on merit-based, need-based, student-specific or course-specific grants. UK GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS


Chevening Scholarships
This scholarship is given by the UK govt. to academically outstanding students by the UK government’s Global Scholarships Program. These grants are usually for a one-year Master’s degree program in the UK. Most of these Scholarships cover the entire tuition fees, an economy class return airfare to the UK, living allowance (individual), and additional allowances to cover necessary expenditure.

Commonwealth Masters Scholarships
Commonwealth Scholarships are offered by the Department for International Development (DFID) in the UK to the international students from developing Commonwealth countries wanting to pursue Masters and Ph.D. in the UK.

The scholarship offers airfare to and from the UK, thesis grant (if applicable), additional allowances to cover personal basic expenses, examination and tuition fees, all included.

Commonwealth Fellowship Plan

Dr Manmohan Singh Scholarships
The Dr. Manmohan Singh Scholarships was launched by St. John’s College in honor of Dr. Manmohan Singh. This scholarship is given to the academically outstanding Indian students who want to pursue doctoral studies in St. John’s College and the University of Cambridge in specific fields like Science & Technology, Economics, and Social Sciences. Applications in Aerospace Engineering and Energy Studies are given the highest priority.

The Global Study Awards
The British Council, Study Portals and ISIC in partnership has initiated ‘The Global Study Awards’ to encourage international students to study in the UK and expand they’re intercultural understanding. The deserving scholar receives a scholarship worth £10,000.
This scholarship is opened twice a year to two international students.

Goa Education Trust Scholarships
Goa Education Trust (GET) aims to supply students from Goa a medium to avail the golden opportunities in education, in areas of their interest. Eligible students get scholarships and research fellowships by the universities.
The scholarship covers full or half tuition fees for the courses.

Charles Wallace India Trust Scholarships
Charles Wallace India Trust (CWIT) offers 10 long-term awards every year to international students which include accommodation and living expenses in Britain, fees and a contribution to international fares. Two years of programs are not included in this scholarship.

British Council Great Scholarships for Indian students
British Council Great Scholarships announces around 198 scholarships with a total budget of £2.6 million every the academic year in partnership with 40 UK universities. The scholarships consist of approximately 169 Postgraduate and 29 undergraduate awards from art and design to engineering, law and management courses.

Inlaks Scholarships
The American, European and the United Kingdom institutes grant these scholarships for funding brightest students to meet all the necessities including tuition fees. These scholarships are provided basically for university courses and specific programs.

Felix Scholarship
Felix Scholarships are introduced for academically outperforming and disadvantaged students from India and different developing countries, having less than 30 years of age, who hold a first-class Bachelor’s degree from a renowned Indian university.

Maximum six scholarships are offered to the students to pursue their postgraduate education at the University of Reading & School of Oriental, the University of Oxford and African Studies each year by the Felix Scholarship Trust.

Erasmus Mundus
Erasmus Mundus Scholarship improved the quality of higher education through cooperation between Europe and the educational institutes throughout the globe. The financial backing for institutes and scholarships for people are provided by this program. The scholarship amounts vary depending upon the level of studies/teaching/research, the duration of their course and also on the nationality of the student.

    Rhodes Scholarships at University of Oxford
    Rhodes Scholarships at University of Oxford is the oldest and the most prestigious of all. This scholarship was acknowledged in the will of Cecil Rhodes in the year 1902. There are five Scholarships provided to the Indian students each year who are elected for their outstanding intellect, character, leadership, and commitment to service, to pursue their education.     Queen Mary University

    Gates Cambridge Scholarships

    University of Hertfordshire
